One of today’s exercises is to imagine a dialogue between two inanimate objects. I imagined a dialogue between two paper clips on my writing table. I only posted 100 words in the comments, but the story within my dialogue went longer, and I thought you, my readers, would like to read it, too. Here is the longer version, which is about 170 words:
"Oh, my Clippy! Uncle Platt, are you alright?!"
"I'm fine, Lil' Gem."
"But you're all twisted up!"
"I'm just serving my purpose on this earth."
"I thought we were only supposed to hold paper together. But your metal body is bent and curved every which way!"
"The titan who works at this desk does a lot of thinking, I reckon. And when he's pondering something, he likes to grab me and pull on my ends and push and fold and work me in his fingers. Some days, I get like this."
"It must hurt!"
"Actually, it feels good to have the kinks in my old body get worked out. It's the best kind of massage you could imagine."
"I don't know if I'm ready for that."
"You'll be ready. One day, you will get used for something important. You'll hold papers together one day. Maybe they will be the pages of a manuscript for a best-seller! You'll be twisted into a straight tool one day to eject the SIM card of the titan's phone. You'll be useful."
